Martin Luther King, Jr. – ‘Beyond Vietnam — A Time to Break Silence”

By 1967, King had become the country’s most prominent opponent of the Vietnam War, and a staunch critic of overall U.S. foreign policy, which he deemed militaristic. In his “Beyond Vietnam” speech delivered at New York’s Riverside Church on April 4, 1967 — a year to the day before he was murdered — King called the United States “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.”

Time magazine called the speech “demagogic slander that sounded like a script for Radio Hanoi,” and the Washington Post declared that King had “diminished his usefulness to his cause, his country, his people.”

March for Kyoto to mark Earth Day

International Earth Day will be celebrated Sunday in Montreal by a march condemning what environmental groups see as the federal government’s inaction over the Kyoto Protocol.

The march is to start at 1:30 p.m. at Lafontaine Park and make its way to Mount Royal Park.

The Coalition Quebec Vert Kyoto, a collection of environmental advocates, and other groups announced the rally yesterday. The group says its goal is to make the Conservative government honour Canada’s obligations under the treaty, designed to combat climate change.

“We want people to go into the streets to send a message to the government of Canada: You must act now,” said Jocelyn Higginson of Greenpeace Quebec.

In February, Environment Minister John Baird said adhering to Kyoto would result in “economic collapse.” [link]

Andrea Lindsay of SHAC7

This morning the Friday Morning After spent the show discussing the US war on activism and the resulting massive Menu Foods pet food recall. 1000s of pets will die due to an unregulated industry that owns the government to such a degree, it has the government lock up any opposition to their bottom line.

The SHAC7 are 6 activists and a corporation, Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty USA Inc., that have been found guilty of multiple federal felonies for their alleged role in simply campaigning to close down the notorious animal testing lab, Huntingdon Life Sciences. The six individuals are all currently in federal prison. They are not accused of actually smashing windows, liberating animals or even attending demonstrations, rather reporting on and encouraging others to engage in legal demonstrations and supporting the ideology of direct action.

Andrea Lindsay is the spokesperson for the Shac7, a group of animal rights activists put in prison for trying to expose the crimes at Huntingdon Research Lab.

Please visit www.shac7.com for more info.

Note for mp3: This mp3 contains audio from a CNN report regarding Chiquita Banana Terrorism in Colombia to highlight the pure hypocrisy of the “war on terror” & the “war on activism”

Windshield Wiper Fluid in Canada’s Environment

David Donnelly joined FMA on March 2, 2007 to discuss it.

The skull & crossbones are there for a reason. But the labels don’t tell the whole story of Canada’s use of this toxic product. Some products contain up to 90% Methanol with no identification on the bottle. Research suggests long-term exposure to methanol fumes that enter cars through the engine could be cancerous.

In 1995, Canada estimated 24,000 tons of emissions from wiper fluid every year went into the environment.

David Donnelly is a long-time environmental lawyer and advocate. He is legal counsel for Environmental Defence.
