Parker will be
keynote speaker at a special public discussion Friday evening
in Montreal. The event is called “War, ‘Terrorism’ and the
Rights of Refugees: A broader analysis of the conflict in
Sri Lanka and the impact on Tamils worldwide.”

Karen Parker, a legal expert who specializes in armed conflict
law, has extensive knowledge of the Sri Lankan conflict. At
Friday’s event she will analyze the Tamil tragedy and address
the international community's failure to support a peaceful
resolution. Toronto lawyer and social justice activist Amina
Sherazee will also speak.

Israeli troops shot the 30 year old Bassem Ibrahim Abu Rahmah on the lands of his village Bi’lin, during the weekly demonstration against the apartheid wall. They fired an extended range teargas projectile directly at him from a distance of 30 meters, against their own open-fire regulations. Bassem was critically injured in the stomach and died not long after in a hospital in Ramallah.
